JAST 37: Spring 2013
Published in spring 2013, the 37th issue of the Journal of American Studies of Turkey looks at how different cultures process literature and film. Fred Kaplan opens the edition with a short tribute to Gore Vidal, while Jonathan Stubbs connects the movie Lawrence of Arabia to the fall of empires. Several essays examine how readers and writers adapt stories. İnci Bilgin Tekin writes about how Turkish readers interpret Toni Morrison's short story "Recitatif," and Meltem Kıran-Raw finds traces of Henry James in Selim İleri’s novel Bu Yalan Tango. Ikram A. Elsherif explores the role of food in Arab-American women's writing. The issue also includes a conversation with Peter Kuznick about American history, alongside several reviews covering media studies and recent movies.
