Abstract

This article analyzes Robert Creeley’s poetry, which examines the emotional and physical space occupied by an individual at a given moment. The paper explores how Creeley’s work suggests that each person experiences the world through personal sensations and perceptions, creating unique “spaces” of consciousness and being. The author contends that Creeley’s poems, often slight in form and subject matter, magnify intimate private life into something profound, challenging the domestic to be significant. This study examines how Creeley’s poetry aspires to connect with others by making one life’s dimensions “actual.” The article argues that Creeley’s writings highlight the separation between individuals, described as “darkness” or “otherness,” and how this distance can be both isolating and a space for interaction. The paper demonstrates that Creeley’s work seeks to inhabit the intimate fact of one life in one place at one time, emphasizing the continuous nature of reality. Methodologically, the article analyzes specific poems and quotes from Creeley’s essays to support its arguments. The significance of this work lies in its exploration of how poetry can bridge the gap between individual experience and shared understanding.
