JAST 29: Spring 2009 - AFRICAN AMERICAN ISSUE
Published in spring 2009, the 29th issue of the Journal of American Studies of Turkey focuses on African American history and Africana Studies. Clyde C. Robertson and Ahati N.N. Toure look at the gap between the humanities and practical application in the field. Tunde Adeleke questions race and identity politics, while Zachery Williams links the African American past to modern political goals. Moving into literature and theater, Michele Simms-Burton writes about poets in the Black Arts Movement, and Jodi Vanderhorn-Gibson analyzes plays by Caridad Svich and Suzan-Lori Parks. The issue also includes Tanfer Emin Tunç on the Black Atlantic, along with a survey by Fabio Rojas covering current problems in Africana studies. Several book reviews and a critique of the film The Messenger finish the edition.
