Abstract

This abstract examines *The Routledge Companion to Media and Gender*, edited by Cynthia Carter, Linda Steiner, and Lisa McLaughlin, which addresses the persistent and evolving dynamics of gender inequality within media studies. The editors emphasize that despite societal progressions, gender remains a critical analytical category in understanding media production, representation, and consumption. Structured into five parts, the volume explores foundational theories in feminist media studies (Part I), examines media industries, policy, and political economy (Part II), delves into issues of representation across various media forms (Part III), and investigates intersections with technology and global contexts (Parts IV & V). Contributions highlight both established debates and emerging areas of research, employing diverse theoretical and empirical approaches. The collection underscores the complexity of contemporary gender-media relations, advocating for nuanced analyses that reflect the multifaceted nature of these interactions in a rapidly globalizing world.
